Publish Mobile Widget

Publishing your widget through these steps allows you to customize its appearance, triggers, and filters to deliver a personalized and targeted experience to your website visitors.

Quick Steps Guidelines

  1. Mobile Widget -> Publish Mobile Widget

  2. Create your 'Automation' for your Mobile Widget.

  3. On 'Setup' choose In-app Message/Widget and decide on your widget type. These are "Widget, Pop-up Style, Banner Style and Fullscreen". Except from Widget (which is created in Create New Mobile Widget), all of the others can be created on the following screen.

  4. Decide on your content on page "What".

  5. Create your audience for your widget on page "Who".

  6. Test and Publish on "GO!".

Step 1: Automation

Mobile Widgets are considered as Automated Messages as they are triggered based on your app users' actions or according to a specific time period you set. On the first page of the Publish Mobile Widget process, you can set up the triggers or time periods for using your widget.

Note:

For more detailed information, you can refer to the Automated Push Scenarios page, where we discuss all the options and settings for automated messages.

User Action

For User Action, there are four options to choose from. They are Increase Retention, Increase App Conversion, Handle Special User Action and Merge Events.

Increase Retention

To increase retention, you can create automated widgets that are sent based on a user's actions or inaction after a certain period of time. For instance, a widget can be created to be sent 2 hours after the user installs the application.

Increase App Conversion

Widgets can be triggered based on the user's actions or inaction over a specific period of time. For example, if a user clicks on a push notification but doesn't make a purchase within a certain time frame, a widget can be scheduled to be sent. These widgets are sent based on the presence or absence of specific events and can be sent to either all devices or only the most recent devices of users.

Handle Special User Action

To handle special user actions, you can set up widgets based on the frequency of certain actions, such as showing a widget when a user makes a second in-app purchase. Again, these messages can be sent to all or most recent devices of users.

Merge Events

With Merge Events, you can create automation scenarios that trigger a single set of actions when multiple events occur in a specific order.

In the event type section, you select the events and event attributes that you want to track, and then assign a desired event key to each event. This enables you to build automation scenarios that are tailored to your needs.

Periodic Widgets

Periodic widgets are sent regularly on a scheduled basis, such as daily, weekly, or monthly. These widgets can be set up to be sent at a specific time, ensuring that they reach the user at a time when they are most likely to engage with them.

One common use case for periodic widgets is showing birthday messages to users. By setting up a daily periodic widgets, you can automatically send personalized birthday widgets to users on their birthdays, ensuring that they feel appreciated and valued by the app.

Step 2: Setup

Choose In-app Message/Widget and decide on your widget type in the 'Setup' section. Then you will choose the type of mobile widget you want to create. The available options are Widget, Pop-up Style, Banner Style, and Fullscreen. Each type offers a different style and layout for your widget. The Widget type should be created in a separate section at Create New Mobile Widget, while the other types can be created on the following screen.

In 'Setup' section, you will start by selecting the In-app Message/Widget option. This will allow you to create a mobile widget for your app. Next, you will need to decide on the type of widget you want to create. Here are the available options:

Example:

Consider your specific goals and the nature of the content you want to present to your app users when choosing the appropriate widget type. Each type has its own advantages and use cases, so select the one that best aligns with your app's overall design and user experience.

Step 3: What

On 'What' page, you will have the opportunity to create and customize the content of your mobile widget. This is where you can make your widget visually appealing and engaging for your users. Here are the key elements and options available for creating your widget's content,

Example:

Imagine you have an e-commerce app, and you want to promote a limited-time sale on specific product categories. On the 'What' page, you can create a widget with a title like "Huge Sale Event!" and a message highlighting the discounts and time-sensitive nature of the sale. You can include appealing product images and a call-to-action button saying "Shop Now" that directs users to the sale page in your app. This well-designed and compelling content will grab the attention of your users and drive them to take action, resulting in increased sales during the sale event.

Widget

This type of widget is a versatile and customizable option that can be placed anywhere within your app's user interface. It can be used to display various content, such as promotions, announcements, or personalized recommendations. You can choose the size, position, and design of the widget to seamlessly integrate it into your app's layout. However, on this page you can choose a pre-designed widget or you may choose to Edit your widget before you continue.

Pop-up Style

A pop-up style widget is designed to grab the user's attention by appearing as a window on the app's content. It can be used for important notifications, prompts, or user interactions. You can customize the size, appearance, and behavior of the pop-up to ensure it aligns with your app's branding and user experience.

The banner style widget is a narrow strip that typically appears at the top or bottom of the app's screen. It is an effective way to deliver persistent messages, reminders, or quick actions without obstructing the main content. You can customize the banner's color, text, and click behavior to suit your app's design and functionality.

Fullscreen

The fullscreen widget covers the entire screen, providing a highly immersive and visually impactful experience. It is suitable for displaying rich media content, such as image galleries, videos, or interactive tutorials. You can design the fullscreen widget with engaging visuals, navigation controls, and interactive elements to captivate your users.

Step 4: Who

In the Who step, the target audience for your widget is determined. The widget can be sent to all users or your target audience can be narrowed by selecting the users by "Select Users", or "Advanced".

Defining Target Audience

Select Users and Advanced Options

You may select your target users by filtering them with criteria of tags, segments, profiles you have created before or according to their responses to your previous notifications, locations, devices and more.

Criteria mentioned below can be created or edited in "Targeting".

Tag

You can segment your users based on tags that you have created in the 'Targeting > Tags' section. Once you have added at least two tags, you can modify your tag preference using 'And/Or' logical operators. This allows you to refine your targeting and reach specific groups of users who share certain characteristics or behaviors.

Segment

Segments are groups of users that are dynamically structured. Based on the actions they take on the app, users can either enter or exit these segments. To learn more, please refer to the Define Segment section.

Profile

The users who’s specified profile attribute is equal to specified value. This refers to a targeting option where you can select users whose specific profile attribute matches a particular value. For example, you can select users whose "gender" attribute is equal to "female" or users whose "age" attribute is equal to "25".

Response

With this targeting option, you can refine your push notification targeting by selecting users who have or have not interacted with a previously sent push notification. This allows you to tailor your messaging and improve engagement rates by sending notifications to users who are more likely to respond.

Location

This targeting option allows you to target users based on their location. You can specify a geographical region, such as a city, state, or country, and send push notifications to users who are located in that area. This is especially useful for businesses that want to promote events or offers in specific locations.

Last Used Device

This targeting option allows you to target users based on their last used device or other than their last used device. You can choose to send push notifications to users who have recently used a specific device or exclude users who have used a particular device.

Location Preferences

This targeting option allows you to target users based on their location permissions. You can send push notifications to users who have granted location access to your app or exclude users who have denied location access.

Device

This targeting option allows you to target users based on their device type. You can send push notifications to users who are using a specific device, such as an iPhone or an Android phone.

Operator

This targeting option allows you to target users based on their telecom operator. You can send push notifications to users who are using a specific telecom operator.

App Version

This targeting option allows you to target users based on the version of your app that they have installed. You can send push notifications to users who are using a specific version of your app or exclude users who have an outdated version.

Operating System

This targeting option allows you to target users based on the operating system of their device. You can send push notifications to users who are using a specific operating system, such as iOS or Android.

Installation Source

This targeting option is available thanks to Netmera integration with Adjust. It allows you to track users who have installed your app from advertising campaigns and send push notifications to them based on the campaign that brought them to your app.

By App Tracking (Android Only)

This allows you to track and target users based on their in-app behaviors, such as their usage frequency or the actions they take within the app. This can help you to refine your targeting and send push notifications to users who are more likely to engage with your app. Note that this feature is only available on Android devices.

Advertising Id Permission

This targeting option allows you to target users based on whether they have given permission for their advertising id to be collected. After iOS 14, apps require user permission to collect advertising ids for devices. With this targeting option, you can send push notifications to users who have granted or denied permission for their advertising id.

Android Provider

This targeting option allows you to target users based on their Android provider. You can send push notifications to users who are using a specific Android provider, such as Google or Huawei.

Promotion

This targeting option allows you to target users based on whether they have a promotion code or not. You can send push notifications to users who have a promotion code to encourage them to use it and drive more sales.

Ignore User Message Limits

It is an option that allows showing widgets to users who have exceeded their message limits. Normally, push notification providers set limits on the number of push notifications that can be sent to a user within a certain period of time to prevent spamming or overwhelming the user.

However, in some cases, it may be necessary to send a message to a user even if they have exceeded their limit, such as for urgent notifications or time-sensitive information. In these cases, the "Ignore User Message Limits" option can be used to bypass the limit and ensure that the message is delivered.

Example:

If you want to show a widget to your customers who have abandoned their carts without making a purchase, you can use "Select Users" to create a target audience by selecting users who have added items to their cart but have not completed the checkout process. By filtering your users with criteria, you show a personalized widget that encourage them to complete their purchase. This can help reduce cart abandonment rates and drive sales for your business.

Step 5: Go!

Before publishing your mobile widget, it's crucial to test its functionality and appearance to ensure a seamless user experience. Use the available preview and testing options to view how the widget will be displayed on different devices and screen sizes. Once you are satisfied with the configuration and testing, you can click on the "Publish" or "Go" button to make the widget live in your mobile app.
