# Chat history

Return to previous N-Assistant conversations, rename them, pin the important ones or delete them.

Every N-Assistant conversation is saved automatically, so an analysis you started yesterday is still there today. Use chat history to continue a previous conversation, keep important ones within reach and clean up the ones you no longer need.

### Find your conversations

Your conversations are listed on the left side of the expanded view, with **New Chat** at the top. Select **Chat History** (the clock icon) in the panel header to open the same list, or select **Expand** to see the list next to the conversation.

Each conversation is titled after the first question you asked. Long titles are shortened in the list, for example, “Analyze the performance of the pus...”. Rename a conversation to give it a title that is easier to recognize.

When you reach the bottom of the list, N-Assistant shows “You’ve reached the end of the list.”

### Manage a conversation

Select the three-dot menu next to a conversation title to manage it.

<table><thead><tr><th width="200">Action</th><th>What it does</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Continue</strong></td><td>Select a conversation in the list to reopen it and pick up where you left off. N-Assistant keeps the context of the conversation.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Rename</strong></td><td>Edits the title, for example, from “Give me a September retention diagnosis” to “September Analysis.”</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Pin</strong></td><td>Keeps important conversations at the top of your history.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Delete</strong></td><td>Removes a conversation you no longer need.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>New Chat</strong></td><td>Starts a new conversation without changing the existing ones.</td></tr></tbody></table>

### Best practices

* Use one conversation per topic, so the context stays focused.
* Rename conversations you plan to return to, such as a monthly retention review.
* Pin the conversations you use most often.
* Delete conversations that you no longer need.

### Where your history is stored

Your conversation history is stored in Netmera. See [Security and privacy](/netmera-user-guide/ai-features/n-assistant/security-and-privacy.md) for details on how data is protected.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://user.netmera.com/netmera-user-guide/ai-features/n-assistant/chat-history.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
